Good to know about the Australian Shepherd
Temperament and family life
Intelligent, attentive and very attached to its family. Affectionate with its people and often reserved with strangers at first. It thrives on consistent, positive training and suits homes with some experience and slightly older children.
Activity and aptitudes
It needs physical and mental activity every day: more than two hours, ideally with some work. It excels at agility, obedience and herding, and is a great partner for active people.
Daily care
Its double coat needs regular brushing, more often during shedding seasons. It can live in a flat only if its need for exercise and stimulation is well covered.
Health and prevention
Keeping a healthy weight, avoiding high-impact exercise while growing and offering daily mental stimulation all help it enjoy a long, active life.
